ACHIEVEMENTS:
Family. I am one-half of a life-time marriage that started
in 1983. I was there for my Mom when she died, and I shared my Dad’s
first and last Christmas he had without her. I have four beautiful,
healthy, stubborn children, and one son-in-law. I organized a family
reunion for my three siblings in 2001 who live in California, North
Dakota and Florida. I take good care of our pets and lost pets.
I was the mother of the bride on June 8, 2002 with all of my family
and friends coming together to help and have fun, because of them,
my beautiful, intelligent daughter that I am very proud of had a
great wedding to a sweet boy that I can now call my son-in-law.
Professional. I assisted and testified during the large
changes in the child care regulations during the 1980’s when
Maryland consolidated its center based and family child care regulations
under the Department of Human Resources. I have assisted and testified
in getting zoning regulations changed in Montgomery County. I have
mentored some child care providers and I have taught a few child
care workshops.
Social. I have stood by two children who were in the middle
of their divorcing parents, while their parents went through their
pain. I have created jobs, paid my taxes, provided a needed service,
assisted stressed parents who lose parents, jobs, marriages. I have
assisted employees with personal managerial problems like what to
do when they were in a car accident, how to get their GED and encouraged
them to take classes. I have taken “high energy” children
that have gotten kicked out of other day care centers and taught
them not to bite and how to use their words. I have taught children
and employees who were petrified of dogs how to pet them without
fear, taught breast-fed babies how to drink from a bottle. I have
connected children with learning disabilities with government agencies
and assisted the government worker from over diagnosing the child.
I have given and received hugs and occasionally a few of the children
I have cared for have come back and told me what my child care has
meant to them. Several of these children are now adults and I can
see my life’s work in their eyes.
